Presentation
Headache.
Patient Data
MRI images show a well-defined round shape lesion in the third ventricle, at the level of the foramen of Monro.
A small focus of calcification present.
Dilatation of supraventricular system is in keeping with secondary hydrocephalus.
Small foci of gliosis are visible in the right hemisphere.
Case Discussion
Colloid cysts are benign intracranial tumors usually occurring in the front part of the third ventricle in proximity to the foramina of Monro.
Clinical presentation may be non-specific and heterogeneous; commonly these cysts cause the development of hydrocephalus.
In some cases, the third ventricular colloid cysts can reach a large sizes developing above the roof of the third ventricle, and pose some challenges during endoscopic excision.
