There is uncoordinated peristalsis with simultaneous contraction of the oesophagus at multiple points, also known as the corkscrew oesophagus or rosary bead oesophagus.
Case Discussion
Features are consistent with diffuse/distal oesophageal spasm (DOS), a motility disorder of the oesophagus. DOS may appear as a corkscrew or rosary bead oesophagus on barium swallow, but this is uncommon. Manometry is the gold-standard diagnostic test.
