Case Discussion

This young male patient was admitted with three days of fever and one day of abdominal pain. After the evaluation and with the clinical laboratory results, the diagnosis of dengue fever was confirmed. In this case, we found the third space fluid accumulation is one of the warning signs of dengue fever.

There are four types of Dengue virus, which belongs to the Flavivirus family. Each one of them leaves us immunity for life post-infection. The dengue virus is primarily transmitted from person-to-person through the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus mosquito.
