Expanded pituitary fossa, filled with fluid of CSF signal. The infundibulum traverses the sella with no significant displacement " infundibulum sign", well-demonstrated on postcontrast sequences.
Case Discussion
MRI features in keeping with empty sella.
There are two categories of empty sella:
complete/total empty sella: >50% of the sella filled with CSF; pituitary thickness ≤2 mm (as in this case, the pituitary thickness was 1.6 mm)
partial empty sella: <50% of the sella filled with CSF; pituitary thickness ≥3 mm
