Previous right L4/5 facet injection with clinical improvement. Synovial cyst on MRI (not available for correlation).
Patient Data
Procedure: With the patient in prone position, the target joint was identified by CT. The skin was prepped and draped in usual sterile fashion. Local anesthesia was performed using 1% ligdocaine. Under CT guidance a 22G needle was placed in the right L4/5 facet joint posterior margin and a 1ml mixture of Celestone and 0.5% Marcaine was injected. Patient referred some improvement after the injection.
Case Discussion
Facet joint injections are one of the most frequently performed spinal interventional procedures, as both treatment for and diagnosis of radicular pain syndrome and facet syndrome. It can be performed under fluoroscopic, or CT image guidance.
