Presentation
Fall on an outstreched hand.
Patient Data
Comminuted distal radial fracture with dorsal angulation and extension into the radiocarpal and distal radioulnar joints. No ulnar fracture.
Casted comminuted distal radial fracture without residual dorsal angulation with extension into the radiocarpal and distal radioulnar joints. No ulnar fracture.
Illustration shows Frykman type VII and type VIII injuries.
Case Discussion
The Frykman system is often used to classify distal radial fractures. Our patient has a type VII injury: a transverse fracture of the distal radius with extension into both the radiocarpal and distal radioulnar joints without an ulnar styloid fracture.
