Presentation

History of portal vein thrombosis with portal congestion,. Recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding related to portal hypertensive enteropathy.

Age: 55 years

A male patient with portal vein thrombosis (with cavernous transformation) and portal hypertensive enteropathy. MR Imaging revealed splenomegaly with multiple small siderotic nodules called Gamna-Gandy bodies (nodules).

Case Discussion

Gamna-Gandy bodies are small multiple siderotic lesions in the spleen parenchyma. They contain haemosiderin, calcium, and fibrous tissue. These siderotic nodules are related to portal vein or splenic vein thrombosis, acquired haemochromatosis, haemolytic anaemia, leukaemia or lymphoma and they represent organised foci of haemorrhage.
