Gossypiboma

Presentation

Left lower quadrant pain and swelling. History of C-section one month ago.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
CT

Low-density heterogeneous spongiform mass containing gas bubbles with an external enhancing wall and a hypodense (HU=1700) in the left iliac fossa showing streak artefact structure at its periphery. Inferiorly there is an extension of the surrounding inflammatory changes abutting the uterine fundus.
No abnormal bowel dilatation or wall thickening is noted.

Case Discussion

The features are suggestive of gossypiboma with the hyperdense metallic marker.
