Presentation
History of caesarean section eight months ago, pain and abdominal swelling for four months.
Patient Data
A large round, mixed-density spongiform mass-like area in the left lower abdomen contains internal gas bubbles and a thick enhancing capsule. Surrounding fat stranding and adhesion with the small bowel wall are noted.
Case Discussion
Gossypiboma is a type of foreign body granuloma or a mass of cotton or sponge that is left behind in a body cavity during surgery. The presence of internal spongiform appearance, gas bubbles, and peripheral enhancing capsule, along with the history of previous Caesarean section, confirms the diagnosis of Gossypiboma.
