Hepatic hydatid cysts (MRI)

Presentation

Abdominal discomfort. Liver masses on ultrasound.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

There are two cystic masses of the liver, located in the segments 2/3 measuring (56 x 50 x 45 mm ) and segments 8/5 measuring (75 x 60 x 55 mm). The cystic matrix is of low signal on T1, high signal on T2 with low signal of the membranes on T2. The cystic mass of the right lobe shows peripheral calcification confirmed on ultrasound, not shown). No enhancement seen on postcontrast sequences.

Small gallstones are noted.

No dilatation of the intra-or extrabiliary radicles.

Case Discussion

MRI features of hepatic hydatid cysts. On ultrasound (not shown), they were classified stage CE5 for the cyst of the right lobe and CE4 for the cyst of the left lobe according to the WHO classification of hepatic hydatid cysts).
