Presentation

Severe headache, nausea and dizziness.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

Non enhanced CT brain.

There is a thickening of the inner table of the skull, with prominent bone lobulations in the frontal regions appearing in the scout view and CT images, typical of hyperostosis frontalis interna (HFI).

Case Discussion

This is an incidental finding or anatomical variant,  mostly not an explanation of the patient's headache.

The aetiology of hyperostosis frontalis interna (HFI) is unknown. Hyperostosis frontalis interna (HFI) should be recognised as a benign entity and should be distinguished from other disorders that affect the frontal skull bone such as Paget's disease, or malignancy.
