Presentation
Lump in the neck increasing in size over the last two weeks.
Patient Data
Ovoid 25 x 15 mm hypoechoic lesion in the neck. Non-compressible. Hypervascular with arterialized traces.
Follow-up examination at 3 months of age (8 weeks after initial ultrasound). There are now several normal lymph nodes and a 5 x 3 mm ovoid hypoechoic lesion with limited internal vascularity.
Case Discussion
It is vital that the clinical history is considered when making the diagnosis of an infantile hemangioma.
The classic history is that a lump, not present at birth, is found within the first months of life. There is then a period of growth before the lesion involutes.
