Presentation

Shortness of breath.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male

HRCT

ct

Multiple bilateral bizarre shaped cysts, predominantly in both upper lobes and sparing the lung bases along with subtle groundglass opacity and a few centrilobular nodules.

The heart size is normal.

The great vessels are unremarkable.

No evidence of lung masses.

No pericardial or pleural effusion.

No pneumothorax.

No mediastinal or axillary enlarged lymph nodes.

Case Discussion

This patient with heavy smoking history shows the typical appearance of Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

Pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis is an upper/mid zone predominant disease with sparing of the costophrenic angles.
