Presentation
Left sided neck swelling and dysphagia.
Patient Data
Cystic lesion within the left paraglottic space across the thyrohyoid membrane. The lesion contains a thin peripheral enhancing rim, slightly thicker anteriorly. The lesion is closely related to the left laryngeal ventricle.
Case Discussion
The imaging features are consistent with a mixed laryngocele with both internal (inside the larynx and medial to the thyrohyoid membrane) and external components (lateral to the thyrohyoid membrane). Laryngoceles are usually managed surgically, either via an external or endoscopic approach. In this case, the patient underwent a microlaryngoscopy, marsupialization, coblation of the laryngocele and biopsy (which yielded inflammatory tissue only).
