Massive papillary thyroid carcinoma

Presentation

Slowly growing neck mass for several years.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

Massive cystic and solid multilobulated mass arising from the left hemithyroid, with frond-like papillary soft tissue and calcifications within. The mass extends into retropharyngeal space and displaces the hypopharynx anteriorly. Compression and displacement of the cervical vasculature and airway/oesophagus. No definite enlarged/calcified lymph nodes in the neck.

Case Discussion

Massive neck mass with typical appearance for an advanced papillary thyroid carcinoma including mixed solid/cystic neck mass, papillary soft tissue, and calcifications. This was allowed to grow for some time before the presentation due to the resource-constrained environment.
