Multilobar pneumonia

Known SLE presented to ER with a history of a productive cough and fever.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Upon admission

Frontal chest radiograph upon admission shows large area of opacity involving the right lower lung zone. There is loss of clarity of the right cardiac border. The right hemidiaphragm is also slightly indistinct. These findings indicate consolidation in the middle and right lower lobes. 


Chest x-ray 8 days later

Frontal chest radiograph obtained 8 days later, shows marked resolution of the opacity, with only minimal residual air space opacification.

Case Discussion

The patient made a recovery following treatment for a community acquired pneumonia.
