The right ovarian vein contains a length of non occlusive thrombus. This does not appear to extend into the proximal ovarian vein or IVC.
No other abnormality identified.
Case Discussion
Ovarian vein thrombosis usually presents as fever and abdominal pain in postpartum or post-op patients. This case was unusual as the patient did not have an obstetric/surgical history. The cause was thought to be due to the patient ceasing the combined oral contraceptive pill 4 months ago and restarting it 2 weeks prior to presentation.
The patient was commenced on anticoagulation and referred for thrombophilia screening.
