Presentation

Respiratory distress and oxygen desaturation.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Bilateral ground glass opacity with more focal bibasal consolidation. Lucency in the medial right lung base is noted and may represent segment of normal lung. Cardiomediastinal contour is within normal limits when allowing for projection. Right internal jugular Permacath is appropriately positioned.

Case Discussion

66 year old female presented with respiratory distress on background of immunosuppression for previous renal and pancreatic transplants. 

Initially treated for hospital acquired pneumonia with antibiotic coverage subsequently changed after confirmation of Pneumocystis jirovecii on sputum culture.
