Presentation

Sudden onset of shortness of breath. O/E: reduced breath sounds over left hemithorax.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Large left sided pneumothorax, with underlying lung collapse.

No mediastinal shift.

Right lung clear.

Case Discussion

A large pneumothorax, meriting pleural drain insertion.

The trachea and heart remain in the midline - so no evidence of tension.
