PDSPIR hyperintense signal is noted in PCL with avulsion fracture of tibial attachment of PCL, with a fracture fragment measuring 9 x 4.8 mm and retracted by approx. 1.5 mm. Findings are suggestive of PCL avulsion fracture. High grade ACL tear.
Complex tear of the body and posterior horn of the lateral meniscus.Grade I signal in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus.
Tear of posterior meniscofemoral ligament.
Partial tear in the medial patellar retinaculum.
Partial thickness tear in the medial collateral ligament.
Tear in patellar ligament.
Linear structure showing hypointense signal on all sequences along lateral tibiofemoral compartment in the intra-articular region. Findings are suspicious for meniscal fragment.
Mild joint effusion with thickened plicae in suprapatellar bursa. Mild osteoarthritic changes.
Case Discussion
Posterior cruciate ligament avulsion injuries are commonly seen in motorcycle or car accidents (dashboard injuries) in which posteriorization forces occur against the tibia in a flexed knee. Avulsion at its tibial insertion is the most common PCL isolated lesion. Surgical reinsertion of the avulsed fragment is the standard treatment.
