Familial history of breast cancer in first-degree relatives. BRCA 1 mutation carrier. Prophylactic bilateral mastectomy.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

Post-operative changes are seen due to bilateral mastectomy and implant reconstruction.

Case Discussion

Prophylactic bilateral mastectomy reduces the risk of breast cancer by at least 95% in women who have a disease-causing mutation in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes and by up to 90% in women who have a strong family history of breast cancer.
