Case Discussion
The findings are consistent with accessory epiphysis (pseudoepiphysis) of the 2nd metacarpal base.
There are potential epiphyses at both the proximal and distal ends of the tubular hand bones. A pseudoepiphysis is an accessory epiphysis that does not significantly contribute to the longitudinal growth of a tubular bone.
One or more can occur in the same patient as normal variants, but they have also been associated with Down syndrome and hypothyroidism.
A case of Prof. Saeed Rad, Tabriz, Iran.
