Pseudomembranous colitis

Presentation

Recent cesarean section. Now abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
ct

Diffuse thickening of the colon with fat stranding, mucosal enhancement and wall edema giving rise to the accordion sign, suggesting pseudomembranous colitis. Pericolic fat-stranding and mild ascites.

Large subinvoluted uterus.

Hepatomegaly.

Cholecystectomy clips.

Case Discussion

This case illustrates the typical radiological features of pseudomembranous colitis with diffuse edematous colonic mural thickening and mucosal enhancment giving the accordion sign.

Antibiotics were administered following CS delivery and the diagnosis of pseudomembranous colitis was confirmed by positive stool culture for Clostridioides difficile.
