Presentation
Motor bike accident while travelling at high speed. Severe limb and spinal injuries.
Patient Data
Fractured radial styloid involving the radiocarpal articular surface
The scaphoid and lunate have been expelled from the proximal carpal row, and are now located in the soft tissues volar to the distal radius
Fractured radial styloid involving the radiocarpal articular surface
The distal radial styloid fracture fragment is radially displaced and rotated by approximately 90 degrees
The scaphoid and lunate have been expelled from the proximal carpal row, and are now located in the soft tissues volar to the distal radius
Intraoperative image
- The radial styloid fracture has been fixed with a plate, screws and wires
- The previously severely dislocated scaphoid and lunate have been returned to their anatomical position in the proximal carpal row
Case Discussion
This case demonstrates a severe fracture dislocation injury of the radial styloid and proximal carpal bones.
