Presentation
Headaches.
Patient Data
Small ring-shaped nodule (6 mm) of the left ventricular wall protruding into the lumen of the frontal horn. It elicits an isosignal to the cortical grey matter on T1, T2, DWI/ADC and high signal FLAIR with no enhancement on post-contrast sequences.
Asymmetry of the lateral ventricles (anatomic variant).
Right cerebellar developmental venous anomaly(DVA).
Case Discussion
The MRI features are suggestive of a ring-shaped lateral ventricular nodule (RSLVN), incidental findings in this case.
The RSLVNs are considered benign lesions (leave me alone lesions), usually asymptomatic and discovered incidentally during an MRI exam. The exact nature of these nodules remains unknown due to the lack of histopathological data.
On imaging, the main differential diagnosis includes:
- subependymal heterotopia: usually seen in patients history of epilepsy
- subependymal hamartomas: seen in patients with tuberous sclerosis
