CT shows a cystic mass in the right adnexal with intense ring enhancement. The right ovarian cyst is suggestive of a corpus luteal cyst.

Case Discussion

An emergency laparotomy was performed at which a right ruptured tubal pregnancy was found and resected.

Although ultrasound is the primary modality of diagnosis for an ectopic pregnancy, CT is occasionally also used when uncertainty about the diagnosis and other pelvic pathology. An intensely enhancing peripheral mass in the adnexal region corresponds to the "ring of fire"  in the ultrasound.
