Simple bone cyst of the proximal humerus

Case contributed by Tariq Walizai
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Long-standing left arm pain and swelling followed by deformity.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Male

There is a defiable, lytic lesion with a fluid-fluid level (best seen on axial images and likely due to hemorrahge) which involves diaphyses and metaphyses of the left humerus. Evidence of cortical irregularity is seen as suggestive of pathologic fracture.

Case Discussion

MRI features with the age of the patient are more in favor of a simple bone cyst involving the left humerus with pathological fracture as described above.
