Skull bone fracture mimic

Presentation

Chronic headache for 3 years. No other symptoms.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
ct

Normal brain density with well-preserved gray-white matter differentiation. No recent intracerebral hemorrhage, infarction, space-occupying lesion, hydrocephalus or midline shift is seen. Calcifications are seen in bilateral basal ganglia. Mild mucosal thickening of bilateral frontal sinuses, bilateral anterior ethmoid air cells and right maxillary sinus. Right-sided deviated nasal septum. Vascular channels mimicking fracture noted in both frontal bones.

Case Discussion

Prominent vascular channels in the frontal bones (frontal diploic veins) on the reformatted volume rendering (VR) images, should not be confused with skull bone fractures.
