Presentation
Chronic right hip pain and limitation of motion. Known previous injury and surgical intervention.
Patient Data
Features consistent with severe premature osteoarthritis of the of the right hip in a young patient. There is remodeling with a femoral head deformity, joint space narrowing, subchondral geode formation and sclerosis. Underlying avascular necrosis is not excluded. There is a cannulated, partially threaded, cancellous screw fixating the right femoral neck consistent with the history of previous surgical intervention. The bony pelvis is otherwise normal.
The limited coronal reconstruction of the previous CT study confirms a moderately severe, right slipped upper femoral epiphysis (SUFE).
Case Discussion
A case of advanced degenerative change within the right hip in a child with previous SUFE (post blunt trauma) and surgical pinning thereof. There is likely femoral acetabular impingement additionally. Hip arthroplasty will be needed once the patients' bones have fused.
