Presentation
Screening mammography.
Patient Data
Nodular and dense fibroglandular tissue is seen in the left breast.
Foci of calcifications with a benign appearance are scattered in the left breast. In addition, a group of punctate and round calcifications is evident in the central outer part of the breast, which is fixed in orientation on both CC and MLO views. This is known as a tattoo sign and is consistent with dermal calcification (BI-RADS 2).
Case Discussion
The tattoo sign is a benign finding and feature given to describe dermal calcifications seen on mammography to prove the dermal location of the calcifications. Obtaining a tangential view or performing a tomosynthesis for confirmation will be helpful.
