Presentation

Small head; delayed milestones.

Patient Data

Age: 1 month
Gender: Female
ct

Early closure of all cranial sutures with abnormal shape of skull.

Thick and chunky calcification of periventricular germinal matrix with punctate basal ganglia calcifications.

Brain parenchymal loss at supra and infra-tentorial levels.

The ventricular system is prominent.

Case Discussion

The features are suggestive of a congenital infectious process, most likely congenital cytomegalovirus.

Secondary craniosynostosis is also seen due to brain atrophy and poor development.
