Presentation

Known hypertensive with a history of severe calcific aortic stenosis. Post transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).

Patient Data

Age: 75 years
Gender: Female

The bioprosthetic aortic valve (Medtronic CoreValve) is seen as double echogenic layers (PLAX view), and the dentation pattern on the PSAX view as well as the appearance of the valve stent and mesh shape frame on the ascending aorta view. The TAV is in an appropriate position, with normal cusp thickness and mobility.
There is trace paravalvular aortic regurgitation. No transvalvular regurgitation. Normal peak velocity and mean gradient (not shown).

Normal biventricular chamber sizes. Normal mitral valve.

AP portable radiograph demonstrates a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Case Discussion

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become a frequent surgery for the treatment of aortic valve stenosis, especially in patients with an elevated risk of significant adverse cardiac events after conventional aortic valve implantation utilising thoracotomy.
