Presentation
Swelling and pain in the knee after recent trauma during sports.
Patient Data
Status post-traumatic shows:
Marked attenuation and altered signal pattern of the medial patellofemoral retinaculum with a suspected small chip fracture of the patella with underlying bone marrow oedema.
Lateral femoral condyle patchy marrow signal of high STIR and low T1 likely bone marrow oedema.
Marked joint collection with multiple fluid/fluid levels of lipohaemarthrosis.
Circumferential deep fascial and anterior and subcutaneous suprapatellar fat smudging and oedema.
Small patchy high STIR signals of both vastus medialis and lateralis with no fibres interruption.
Case Discussion
Status post-traumatic with classical features of transient lateral patellar dislocation with subsequent medial patellofemoral retinaculum injury as well as patellar and lateral femoral condyle bone marrow contusion/trabecular injury mounting to patellar fracture.
Marked joint effusion showing lipohaemarthrosis.
Low grade strain/contusions of vastus lateralis & medialis with deep fascial oedema and suprapatellar subcutaneous oedema.
