Venous intravasation - retrograde urethrography

Case contributed by Bahman Rasuli
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Post-trauma. Inability to urinate.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Retrograde urethrogram reveals a segment of tight stricture involving the proximal bulbar urethra in bulbomembranous junction, with extensive venous intravasation into the penile venous plexus and pelvic veins.

Case Discussion

Retrograde urethrography findings are consistent with a tight stricture along with proximal bulbar urethra associated with venous intravasation. Intravasation is partly due to the degree of pressure applied during contrast administration, the higher the pressure, the more likely intravasation will occur.
