General radiography article structure
Updates to Article Attributes
There are two main types of general radiography articles, which require a different set of subheadings as the usual epidemiology, clinical presentation, pathology etc. are not relevant.
=======================================================================
Radiographic series
These articles describe the set of projections that make up a series that might be requested by a clinician, e.g. they would request a wrist x-ray, to get a PA and lateral view, together these are termed the series.
Each article should begin with a brief introductory sentence/paragraph, with the title of the article repeated and emboldened, followed by a number of standard subheadings:
- indications (heading 4)
- projections (heading 4)
- standard projections
- modified trauma projections
- additional projections
- procedure (heading 4)
- preprocedural evaluation
- technique
- kVp
Examples
Radiographic view
These articles describe a specific projectional view that is obtained as part of a radiographic series.
Each article should begin with a brief introductory sentence/paragraph, followed by a number of standard subheadings:
- indications (heading 4)
- patient position (heading 4)
- technical factors (heading 4)
- PA/AP
- centring point using anatomical landmarks
- collimation using anatomical landmarks
- orientation (portrait/landscape)
- detector size: although most places are going digital and have digital detectors now. Giving the basic film size will still help those who have CR. It also gives people a good idea of collimation factors e.g. 35 x 43 cm
- exposure (kVp/mAs)
- FFD/SID
- grid (yes/no)
- image technical evaluation (heading 4): how to tell if the view is adequate
- practical points (heading 4): information that can be helpful when the projection isn't straightforward, often information that is learnt via years of experience
