Aneurysmal dilatation of the inferior vena cava is an uncommon finding. When present it can be often associated with other caval anomalies. One method of classifying IVC aneurysm is the one proposed by Gradman and Steinburg 1. This method classifies them as:

  • type I : suprahepaticsuprahepatic IVC aneurysm withoutvenous obstruction
  • type II : above above or below the hepatic IVC IVC associated with interruptionof the IVC
  • type III: : infrarenal infrarenal IVC aneurysm without any associated venous anomaly
  • type IV : other
