Presentation

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
ct

At the inferior left hilum there is a solid, heterogeneous tumor with a fleck of calcification which narrows the lumen of the lower lobe bronchus. There is distal occlusion of segmental and subsegmental bronchi associated with laterobasal consolidation. The tumor contacts the latero- and posterobasal artery with no cleavage plane between them. It also contacts and displaces the inferior pulmonary vein.

Case Discussion

This patient had a carcinoid tumor of the lung, a subtype of a neuroendocrine tumor. Although imaging can be very helpful, the patient needed a biopsy and lab results to confirm the diagnosis.

It is important to clarify that the patient was totally asymptomatic and that it was a casual finding.
