Epiploic appendagitis - sigmoid colon

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Right lower abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female

There is a small ovoid structure of fat-density in the right iliac fossa,  adjacent to the sigmoid colon with thin peripheral hyperdense rim (hyperattenuating ring sign), surrounding inflammatory fat stranding with thickening of the adjacent peritoneum and minimal peritoneal effusion. A central hyperdense dot is noted, representing the thrombosed vascular pedicle.

Normal appearance of the appendix, uterus and ovaries.
