Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

There is a rim of fluid in the uterine endometrial cavity. Uterine myometrium and both ovaries are normal. There is a left adnexal linear echogenic structure with posterior acoustic shadow. It is between the uterus and left ovary. There is no other abnormality in the pelvis.

Case Discussion

A lady presented with missing IUD string. She had no pain in the abdomen or pelvis. Ultrasound is the first modality to locate IUD in the uterus or in the adnexa. The case shows missing IUD in the left adnexa which was detected due to posterior acoustic shadowing.

Laparoscopy revealed IUD in the left fallopian tube. The IUD was removed.
