Pellegrini-Stieda lesion

Case contributed by Dr Yasser Asiri

Chronic knee pain

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

There is calcification/ossification noted at the area of medial collateral ligament attachment into the femoral epicondyle suggestive of Pellegrini-Stieda lesion. Degenerative changes involving the medial joint compartment are also seen.

Case Discussion

Pellegrini-Stieda lesion presents with specific radiographic appearance of calcification or ossification related to prior medial collateral ligament injury. The patient was followed up by MRI study and found to have a torn medial meniscus which likely explained the patient's presenting symptoms.
