Ovoid well-corticated bony defect of the inferior aspect of the sternal body of midline location.
Case Discussion
Sternal foramen (or perforated sternum) is considered a developmental variant of the sternum and results from incomplete fusion of the sternal ossification centers. It is a common incidental finding, occurring in approximately 5% of the population. Small foramina can be mistaken for sternal fracture on sagittal images.
