Large solid mass lesion axial up to 65 mm and height up to 60 mm in right maxillary sinus with sinus cavity expansion, obliteration, and bone destruction extended within the alveolar process, right side buccal space, and right side nasal cavity with impression on nasal septum is seen. The tumor extended within the orbital floor and partially encased the inferior rectus muscle. Extension of the mass within the right side infratemporal fossa, pterygopalatine fossa, and base of pterygoid process is noted.
Case Discussion
The case illustrates the non-contrast MDCT features of pathology-proved adenoid cystic carcinoma of the maxillary sinus extended within the orbital cavity floor and buccal space. The main treatment of adenoid cystic carcinoma is complete surgical excision but there are high rates of recurrence and tumor is usually detected in the advanced clinical and imaging stage.
