Large atrial septal defect. Enlarged right ventricle, main, left and right pulmonary arteries suggesting preload pulmonary hypertension.

Case Discussion

Small atrial septal defects may spontaneously close during childhood, and others might not manifest until the age of 60. Overall, the survival rate drops to less than 50% beyond the age of 40-50 years, with a subsequent annual mortality rate of about 6%.
