An acetabular labral sulcus is a type of normal variant seen as a cleft-like appearance on imaging. It forms where the labrum meets the adjacent articular cartilage. Several sulci can be identified which include
- several sublabral sulci
- posterosuperior ~ 48%
- anterosuperior ~ 44%
- anteroinferior ~ 4%
- posteroinferior ~ 4%
- transverse ligament-labral junction sulcus
- perilabral sulcus
Differential diagnosis
- acetabular labral tear: sulci have smooth labral edges, whereas labral tears tend to have irregular edges
