Broken heart sign (incudomalleolar disarticulation)

The broken heart sign, also known as the Y sign 2,3, describes an appearance of incudomalleolar disarticulation along with the loss of the ice cream cone sign.

This sign is identified on CT in the coronal plane, formed by the widening of the incudomalleolar joint and lateral displacement of the incus's short process relative to the malleus head 1,2.
