Duverney fractures are a type of pelvic fracture most commonly occurring in the setting of a direct blow to the ilium, with a resultant isolated iliac wing fracture. It is regarded as a stable injury but may be operated on in the event of severe comminution.
History and etymology
It is named after Joseph Guichard Duverney (1648-1730), a French surgeon who discovered it after a patient fell onto, and broke, an iron tyre. The patient died days later. During dissection, a puss filled fracture of the ilium was discovered 5.
